We had the honour of framing Joe's works on paper for his solo show, Silt and Stone.
Curated by Coates and Scarry, the exhibition made full use of 17 Midland Road's three floor gallery space, in the heart of Bristol's Old Market.
The work is full of texture and colour, that converse with each other, quietly. There is a softness to each of the angles in his work, which reflect the weathered headlands and harbour walls of his home town, St Ives.
Although the work in this show is rooted in Bristol and it's surroundings, these aren't paintings of place. They are a dialogue between the experience of place, and the experience of putting paint to canvas.
